7-26-21 THOUGHTS

Our topic for reading last night was PROFIT!  I can’t get it our of my mind.  God tells us that some things profit us and some things don’t.  .
Jer 16:19    O LORD, my strength and my stronghold, And my refuge in the day of distress, To You the nations will come From the ends of the earth and say, "Our fathers have inherited nothing but falsehood, Futility and things of no profit."
Mark 8:34-38    And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 35  "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36  "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37
"For what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 38  "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels."
The book of Ecclesiastes declares that all a man does in this life is but “VANITY...A STRIVING AFTER THE WIND.”    Solomon’s search for PROFIT in Ecclesiastes ends as follows:
Eccl 12:7-14    then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. 8   "Vanity of vanities," says the Preacher, "all is vanity!" 9  In addition to being a wise man, the Preacher also taught the people knowledge; and he pondered, searched out and arranged many proverbs. 10  The Preacher sought to find delightful words and to write words of truth correctly. 11  The words of wise men are like goads, and masters of these collections are like well-driven nails; they are given by one Shepherd. 12  But beyond this, my son, be warned: the writing of many books is endless, and excessive devotion to books is wearying to the body. 13  The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person.  14  For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.
1Cor 10:32-33    Give no offense either to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God; 33  just as I also please all men in all things,
not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many, so that they may be saved.
Heb 4:2    For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.
Deut 10:12    "Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require from you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

My Prayer:
O Lord, may our search for what is good for us in this life, begin and end with you. May our faith provide your profit.  Cause us to abide in you and in Jesus each day, this day.  Keep us from the lust of this world and this life, Help us, O God,  to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, so that we may prove what Your will  is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
In the precious name of our Savior.           Amen
